Top JPG Image Compressor of 2022

I have not published a ton of posts this year but I did publish a series of seven posts comparing TinyJPG (TinyPNG) to several other online image compression sites. It was an enlightening series of posts for myself, since I often default to just using TinyJPG for compressing the images I upload to this site. If you don’t feel like reading all of the other posts here is my breakdown of the top online jpeg compressor for 2022.

I thought it was a little unfair to create this list from the compression of all different images, so I grabbed a new cat photo to test with. This new test image is 4.6 MB.

Here are the results of the same image compressed using each online image compressor from best compressed to worst.

Our winner for best JPG image compressor for 2022 is a tie between Squoosh and Caesium Image Compressor! Before anyone goes off in the comments about Compressor.io doing just as well, that is true on this image but as I pointed out in the full TinyJPG vs. Compressor.io post did well there too but has a flaw that simply did not show up in this test, portrait images are rotated and the compressed image is landscape. The fact I tested with a landscape image to begin with hide this problem.
