Everyone has a list of things they want to get around to - movies to watch, restaurants to try out, museums to visit, books to read. You might keep this list written down somewhere, saved in a document on your computer, or even just floating around in your head. But SOON is the perfect single-purpose app to keep track of all those things. Usually I’m not a fan of apps that bill themselves as “single-purpose”, however since SOON can help you keep track of such a variety of cultural “to-do” lists I definitely recommend it.

SOON presents you with a clean, minimalist menu where you can choose from an array of categories: movies, TV shows, books, museums, restaurants, games, podcasts, and more. Within those categories you can find things you’ve been meaning to try or watch. You can click on the items to find out more about them. You can watch the trailer of a movie or see its IMDB rating. For museums you can check the opening and closing hours and see a map of where it’s located. Each different category provides information that you might need to successfully tick the item off your to-do. Once you do get around to watching the movie or reading the book on your list, you just swipe to the left and you can select a face to record if you liked it or not.

It really is as simple as it sounds, but once you start using it you’ll quickly see how useful it is. Personally I was quite surprised how much I have used it in just the week or so I’ve had the app. It’s so much easier than just trying to remember the name of the books I wanted to get around to reading or remembering to write them down when I had the chance. The fact is in this day and age you probably have your phone with you all the time, but no pen and paper handy. I also like using SOON rather than keeping a note in Evernote or a similar note taking app because with all the lists in one app and nothing else it’s so much easier to get to quickly when you need to jot down the name of a restaurant you want to try out.

The biggest downside (which isn’t all that big) is that it is only available for iOS. I had actually been wanting to try the app for awhile but up until recently I had an Android phone, so no SOON for me. This also means that less people use the app, so that makes it hard to utilize the social aspects of the app. You can allow it access to your Facebook so you can see what kinds of books or movies or restaurants your friends want to see, but if none of your friends are using SOON that’s kind of useless. Despite that, I’d still certainly recommend this app!
